This was pretty helpful during 1L year, provides good detail on black letter law.

The Law of Torts Examples Explanations Examples Explanations Series 4th forth edition Joseph W Glannon 8581110001672 Books

This was recommended to me by a professor during my first year. Each concept has several practice questions. At the end is a large fact pattern designed to spot as many issues as possible and write as much as possible on the rules. This resembled my final in that I have three hours to write two essays discussing all the tort issues raised by a large fact pattern. If your torts final will resemble that format, you should get this book.

The Law of Torts Examples Explanations Examples Explanations Series 4th forth edition Joseph W Glannon 8581110001672 Books Reviews

As usual, the Glannon books do an excellent job of supplementing lectures and reading. This E&E covered the material similarly to how my professor did, making it a great study guide. However, it is no substitute for good notes and questions to professors. If you don't have at least a tenuous grasp of the material, this book isn't going to give you a miraculous understanding of torts.

Bottom line if you need some practice and/or slight clarification, you can't beat Glannon.
I actually purchased this for help with my classes, but found even though it had some basic information, the best use was not for daily reading and case briefing, but for exams. There are a few pages in each chapter of basic topic description and then the rest of the chapter has example essay type questions you can use to practice before midterms or finals. You then get explanations to go along with those sample questions that let you know if you're on the right track. If you need help for daily reading, this isn't going to help, but if you are worried about exams, this is the book for you.
This book is the best supplement I used for any of my classes this past semester! Highly recommend using the book throughout the semester to reinforce what your professor teaches you. Being a night student, I found it very helpful to study this book during breaks at work more so than flash cards or lugging a casebook. Glannon is great! The E & E Civ Pro book by Glannon is equally as good, but it should be updated to include some of the new things that have come about since Iqbal and Twombly. It should be noted that not all the E & E books receive as much praise, but I would recommend this one to anyone in torts.
I used this as a supplement while outlining for an open-notes tort final. It's a plain-language overview of torts concepts, with a series of hypos and explanations at the end of each chapter. The overview itself is nothing special, but the questions in the back are great for figuring out where the holes in your understanding are. After you finish outlining each chapter in your textbook, reread the overview and then answer the hypos; whenever you get one wrong, look closely at the explanation and augment your outline accordingly.

Caveat emptor It's an incredibly helpful book if you're trying to beef up your outline, but it won't teach you torts from scratch.
This book is called an Example & Explanation book. It helps readers/students who are trying to learn, or who are enrolled in a Torts (Civil Wrongs) course understand the important principles and concepts relating to the various laws and theories of Torts. It is a great study aid/supplement for students enrolled in Torts. The text clearly explains the laws governing Torts and how the laws work in factual scenarios. Each chapter covers an important concept of Torts and gives questions, along with answers, to aid the reader in understanding how the laws and theories of Torts apply.
The content itself seems okay. However, this review is for the organization of the book in its entirety, and the way the example questions are laid out.

I am comparing this to the contracts E & E, which I though was laid out great. The sections in the table of contents here are not clear on what tort area of the law the section pertains to, it just has cleaver titles like"interlude pleading a personal injury case" or "The duty element." Then you have to look under each chapter to see where you want to go, and those titles are not much better. They need to organize this book by sections (like understanding torts does), with sections on nuisance, products liability, strict liability, battery, etc. that are clearly labeled. Also, I cannot find where nuisance is at, I think they left it out of the book but its a big area of tort law.

The questions at the end of the chapter are organized by the type of question, instead of letting you figure out the exact problem you are trying to be tested on. This seems like a pretty stupid thing to do. For example, in the product liability defenses chapeter, there are questions under headers that say "use and misuse," then a question right underneath it that says, "what defense should the defendant use?" . . . duhh, the defense of misuse because the publisher put this question under the title of misuse. Dumb right? So, although the questions and answers are helpful, it would be much more helpful not to have these headers so I can figure out how to analyze the facts more and which defense would be possible.
Can't find a better resource for helping understand tort law. This book really saved me in my first year tort class. It breaks down the fundamentals and helps you understand the basics, which I really needed in this class. If you have a great instructor you may be fine, however if not then something like this will help substitute whatever you have missed out on.
